How Collaboration Fuels Better Research

From biotech startups to global institutions, here’s how co-creation is helping us tackle complex challenges and deliver faster, smarter results.

As global industries push toward greener operations, research labs are increasingly challenged to reduce their environmental footprint. Traditional materials testing methods—while accurate and widely accepted—often rely on energy-intensive equipment, harsh chemicals, and disposable consumables.

At our laboratory, we’ve made it a mission to integrate sustainable practices into our materials testing workflows—without sacrificing scientific rigor or performance.

Why Greener Testing Matters

Scientific research, especially in the materials space, has long prioritized accuracy and reliability. But it’s time to add sustainability to that list. Greener methods in lab testing:

  • Reduce chemical waste and hazardous disposal
  • Lower energy and water consumption
  • Minimize use of single-use plastics
  • Support clients’ ESG and regulatory goals

Our Approach: Sustainable by Design

We've developed a 3-part framework to guide all new materials testing protocols toward greener execution:

  1. Method Replacement. Wherever possible, we substitute legacy solvent-heavy tests with dry or low-volume equivalents (e.g., using microscale tensile testers over full-scale hydraulic presses).
  2. Sample Efficiency. We design protocols that require less raw material per test, reducing excess production and handling.
  3. Smart Instrumentation. We've upgraded our core equipment with energy-efficient modes and automated shutoff features.

Metrics That Matter

We didn’t stop at making changes—we measured the results. Since implementing these updates, we’ve seen:

  • 32% reduction in lab solvent usage
  • 19% drop in electricity consumption per test
  • 42% decrease in single-use plastic consumption
  • 25% faster test cycles, thanks to optimized workflows
“We believe sustainability should be a scientific standard—not a marketing statement. Greener labs aren’t just better for the planet—they’re more efficient, more respected, and more aligned with where the industry is heading.”— Dr. Lena Ortiz, Head of Materials Research
